Dr. Bolin Qin, L.Ac., CMD, Ph.D

Dr. Qin graduated from Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and subsequently worked as a physician at a University Hospital of Sports Medicine in China. As a core member of physician team for professional sports athletes, he provided professional medical support for athletes participating in the National Games of China, the Asian Olympic Games, and the Olympic games for many years. During this period, he carried out clinical research on the integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and combined Acupuncture and Tuina, Qigong, and Sports medicine.

To pursue his research interest, he went to Japan to further study the molecular mechanisms underlying TCM at Nagoya University in Japan. His research results demonstrated the effectiveness and molecular mechanism of TCM in the prevention and treatment of diabetes and obesity, which led him to obtain a Ph.D. degree in medicinal science. He then joined Dr. Adeli’s group at the University of Toronto, which has a world-leading diabetes research center, to complete his postdoctoral study on small intestinal-derived lipoproteins of insulin resistance. His research discoveries were published in high profile journals. 

 In the US, he started working as a research scientist at Human Nutrition Research Center located in Maryland, where he isolated and characterized novel compounds from traditional herbs to prevent and treat diabetes, obesity, cancer, and related cardiovascular diseases. He was appointed as the director of research and project leader in industry and academia joint projects. He has conducted over 60 presentations in the conferences and published 35 peer-reviewed manuscripts and have been invited to review about 100 manuscripts by the editors of several prominent journals. 

Guided by the holistic principles of TCM, Dr. Qin aims to bring the body back into harmony by taking care of not only the physiological but also the psychological and social wellbeing. With 35 years of experience in both Chinese and Western medical practices, Dr. Qin combines TCM techniques with scientific knowledge to treat and alleviate symptoms of various illnesses. This unique perspective has allowed Dr. Qin to tackle some of the notoriously challenging medical problems, including illnesses that are difficult to manage with conventional Western methods.
